Here is a romance taking place in the midst of the Mexican Revolution, early in the 20th Century. The models are enacting a scene in the book in which the hero is holding the heroine as a human shield while backing away from the bodies of the men he had killed at a state dinner in Mexico City. The peasant guerrillas shown fighting at the bottom of the painting are symbolic of the Mexican Revolution. It is a pity that this was eliminated from the cover, I thought this section was well painted.
