The Logan family living in Ohio, drove down to Mississippi, where they were confronted with racist segregation. For the young girls this was their first encounter with this inhuman condition. While I enjoyed painting this cover, I would have preferred expressing the deeper meaning of the book, but Puffin Books felt it would have been too controversial.
