I remember seeing an old Hollywood movie "A Many Splendored Thing", based on the book by Han Suyin, which engendered a feeling for this cover. Here I portrayed the romance of an American white woman with a Chinese man in a beautiful garden. The cover proof you see here is an early printing, When the book finally came out, Bantam Books decided to print the painting very small on the back because it was feared that an interracial couple would not sell well then, about twenty three years ago.
