This dramatic painting is of a couple caught in the midst of the Chicago fire of the 19th Century standing in Lake Michigan. I had originally painted as assigned, the hero bare chested in this pose. However, later the art director changed his mind and I had to paint a shirt on him (without exact reference). It's really unfortunate that the painting was so closely cropped for the cover.
